Trying to create blog content with AI. This one took longer than expected because the algorithms kept providing old news articles. After around two hours of wrestling with both AI chatbots, we finally came up with this. :))

I’ll experiment with better prompts next week. My goal is to provide a weekly highlight of science news and its relation to society to make it more relevant. Oh well. Hopefully next week’s experiment will be better (and faster!).

Enjoy the snippets below for now! :)

1. National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) 2023: Advancing the Blue Economy (November 22–26, 2023)

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) showcased its marine science and technology projects and initiatives at the M/V Capt. John B. Lacson training ship docked in Iloilo City. The exhibit, dubbed as “Lawud” (a Visayan word for sea), featured innovations such as aquaculture technologies, marine biotechnology products, ocean energy systems, and coastal resource management tools. These projects aim to promote the sustainable use and development of our rich marine resources, which can contribute to food security, economic growth, and environmental protection. This is also aligned with social sciences’ goal of understanding and addressing the social, cultural, and political aspects of human interactions with the sea.

2. DOST-PTRI concludes Philippine Textile Congress at NSTW 2023

The DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) held its annual Philippine Textile Congress at the NSTW 2023 in Iloilo City. The congress featured presentations and discussions on the latest trends and developments in textile research, innovation, and industry. The congress also highlighted the achievements and challenges of the Philippine textile sector, which is composed of various stakeholders such as farmers, weavers, designers, manufacturers, traders, and consumers. The congress aimed to foster collaboration and synergy among these stakeholders to revitalize and strengthen the textile industry in the country. This is also relevant to social sciences focus on studying the historical, cultural, and economic dimensions of textile production and consumption.
